Willard Gibbons' Bio
Heaven on earth -- that's how Willard Gibbons describes the Texas Hill country. He should know.
That's because Willard was born in Blanco -- the heart of the Hill Country -- in February 1944. He
spent his early days playing in the beautiful Blanco River and among the surrounding hills. Today, he
continues to roam the area, taking photographs of the people, places and things that make the region
so special.
Willard graduated from Blanco High School in 1962 and finished two years of college in San Marcos
at Southwest Texas State Teachers College, now called Texas State University, before he was drafted
into the Army. After basic training he spent the rest of his Army tour of duty in Wurzburg, Germany,
in the Third Infantry Division. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1967, Willard went to work
for the U.S. Geological Survey in Austin, Texas. During his career with the USGS, Willard traveled
extensively around Texas and across the nation. Though he saw plenty of pretty scenery, he still
believes the Texas Hill Country is by far the most beautiful, as confirmed by his many photos of the
area.
Photographs have always fascinated Willard, who has spent countless hours refurbishing old
black-and-white photos using a scanner and computer software to bring damaged photographs back to
life. He believes each picture represents a moment in time that can never be recaptured but can be
remembered and -- to some extent -- relived through the photograph, his version of a "poor man's time
machine." His current photographs may be purchased in color or black and white, depending on the
client's preference.
Willard's attention to detail and quality can be seen in each and every photographic art print he
makes available for viewing and sale. Willard will only allow the highest quality photographic prints
to be sold on his web site or at his gallery.
Just some of his stunning photographs may be viewed via his Website and he will be glad to answer
any questions related to his photography by phone or e-mail or stop by his studio to view his work
first hand.
